Cabinet approves National Day of Non-violence in Lebanon 2016-10-02


On June 25, 2016, AUNOHR University presented an official file to the Minister of Culture, Mr. Rony Araiji, to cooperate in issuing an official request to the Council of Ministers to establish a national day in Lebanon to commemorate and consecrate the culture of non-violence, on the same date for the International Day of Non-violence United Nations on October 2nd.

Our initiative was supported by the Prime Minister Tammam Salam, who considered that we urgently need to spread this culture in our society as in the region. The request was approved at the Cabinet meeting on 13 October 2016 and issued by the official decision No. 7 dated 14 / 10/2016, and then published in the Official Gazette.

The decision of the Council of Ministers states:
"In the belief of the Ministry of Culture in Dialogue and Non-violence, and in support of the just and civilized humanitarian and cultural issues, the Ministry submits the AUNOHR initiative to the Council of Ministers proposing approval and adoption of the National Day of Culture of Non-violence, as well as all educational, social, media and cultural institutions, in order to educate the public to spread the message of non-violence and to fully respect human rights..."

AUNOHR congratulates Lebanon and the government on this decision and considers it a national and civilized decision. It will be an occasion for the university to celebrate the idea of ​​non-violence, its heritage, its pioneers and its experiences, through creative activities, on each October 2nd, which essentially complements the teaching of non-violence on academic level.
