Launching of Jean-Marie Muller’s book “Disarming Gods” in Arabic 2015-08-01

AUNOHR has celebrated the Arabic translation of the book by the philosopher of nonviolence Jean-Marie Muller, “Disarming Gods", on the university campus, in the presence of the author, students, professors, staff and friends…

Muller’s book, DESARMER LES DIEUX, is the culmination of twenty years of research and work on religious texts, especially Christianity and Islam, with a view to reading them from the standpoint of nonviolence and the critical deconstruction of violence in religious texts.

The event took place on the first of August 2015, during a half-day dedicated to celebrate the issuance of this unprecedented reference book, in the presence of the author who was pleased to sign the Arabic version in Lebanon and with the presence of audience from five Arab countries. At the beginning of the meeting, a speech by the founder of AUNOHR, Ogarit Yunnan and the Vice President Dr. Hussain Shaban, then readings from the book by a group of students and concluded by a message of Muller himself “Goodness is the rule of the world.”

Translated by Dimitri Avghérinos, the production of the book was supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon, the Fouad and Tawfiq Fadel Foundation and the Lebanese Association for Civil Rights.

The book is academically accredited at the university, within the Major of the Culture of Non-Violence and Religions.

NB: The first time Jean-Marie Muller released his book "Disarming Gods" at the launch of the original French version in 2010, was in Lebanon and at AUNOHR University during its first pilot courses. On a long academic day, Muller expressed his joy: "How happy I am to lecture on my book on Christianity, Islam, violence and nonviolence, here in an Arab country, and among a diverse audience in its faith and affiliations, and in the presence of Christian and Muslim clerics. I hope that a university for nonviolence will be the basis for launching this innovative thinking and offer lessons that write a better history of teaching the culture of religions in our societies..."
