Having had the chance to work for so many years in UNESCO to help transform the culture of war and violence into a culture of peace and non-violence, it is an immense pleasure to see that you have succeeded in establishing an Academic University for Non-violence and Human Rights in Beirut. There is an acute need for a transformative shift in our thinking and behavior, not only with regard to the Middle East, but worldwide… This is a wonderful and challenging goal. A University for Nonviolence! It fills me with joy because the acceptance of nonviolence as a way of life is the true civilization of humanity. I was ecstatic when I heard that an Arab University for Nonviolence is taking shape in Lebanon. I think it is much needed in many parts of the world. I am happy to be associated with this venture. I hope my modest contribution to the study and understanding of nonviolence will help bring about a difference in the younger generation who are the leaders of tomorrow...

When my friends Ogarit Younan and Walid Slaybi announced to me, during our meeting in July 2008 in Beirut, the establishment of a University for Non-violence in the Arab region, I received the news with great joy. This was the culmination of long years of endeavor during which Ogarit and Walid have continued to dig a wide and deep groove in which they sowed seeds of non-violence. Allow me to pay tribute to their determination and perseverance. I have no doubt that this University for Non-violence will help lifting a new dawn on the Arab world. I am particularly pleased to participate in this exciting adventure…

When my dear friend Ogarit Younan told me that they founded a University for NON-VIOLENCE, I saw a light emerging from the present’ darkness… I fully share the objectives and aims of AUNOHR, and will struggle together against violence and to establish human rights and justice, for a new beginning and a radical change in our minds and hearts and for the transition from a culture of violence to a culture of peace...
