It is a first protocol of its kind, signed between the Lebanese University (UL) and AUNOHR, at the central administration of UL in Beirut, in presence of deans, administrators, professors and trustees of AUNOHR.
On February 19, 2016, the Lebanese University hosted the delegation of AUNOHR in its Central administration in Beirut - Museum district, where the President of the Lebanese University Dr. Adnan Sayed Hussain and the President of AUNOHR Dr. Issam Mansour signed the first protocol of cooperation between the two universities.
Dr. Adnan Sayed Hussain welcomed everyone, in a speech summarizing the essence of this protocol: “This kind of higher education, through AUNOHR, is a new model in Lebanon and in the Arab world, in the sense that its primary objective is education on nonviolence, including human rights and citizenship...Here is a noble humanistic mission at a time when the Arab region is in the most difficult conditions and unprecedented violence which its transmission or not to Lebanon is related to awareness and prevention, and here is the role of such a university... For this main reason, the Lebanese University decided to establish this agreement...”
In her speech at the beginning of the meeting, the founder of AUNOHR, Ogarit Younan, made a short introduction: “I am pleased to be here today on behalf of AUNOHR, launching this first cooperation between us, with my old friend Dr. Sayed Hussain. It is really a good day, and through the goodness inside us, we make professional life and learning more humane, significant and creative…At the end, the importance of this agreement lies in the transition from clauses to concrete achievements, and AUNOHR started by an innovative implementation of a human rights program dedicated to the UL professors on the Active Methods to Teach Human Rights and Non-violence…”
AUNOHR President Issam Mansour, stressed that the mission of the University is, in short, the integration between academic professionalism at global levels and pioneering curricula, and social change on the basis of this professionalism and leadership. He also expressed his pleasure that the first protocol he signs in the name of AUNOHR, is with the Lebanese University, the national university...
Then followed interventions by members of the Board of Trustees of AUNOHR, the Deans of many faculties and human rights professors in the Lebanese University participating in the event.
As a result of the meeting, the audience concurred the need for professionalism in the modern methods of teaching human rights, and the importance of such an agreement between the two universities.
