Course description
NHR503 is an intensive introduction to the foundations of human rights, thru a general review about the background of the culture of human rights and its philosophical and reference bases, with an overview of the international and regional instruments. It also includes an accurate look at the United Nations Charter, as well as a quick look at the concept of human development in relation to socio-economic rights. On practical level, this course will present an introduction about the UPR system with case studies on Lebanon and other Arab countries. This course is designed to prepare students through applications and case studies, to acquire the skills of reading human rights texts, and the skills of analysis, classification and criticism.
